The Farm School (Secondary) offers two day per week, project based programs for students in Years 7-12. Different cohorts of students will be targeted with each program. It is expected that students will attend their base school on the remaining three days each week.
In Term 4, 2009:
Target Group: Girls displaying risk taking behaviour in lifestyle choices.
Thursdays and Fridays
Girls who are likely to find this program useful are aged 12-14 years of age, experimenting with illegal and/or illicit substances, connecting with boys in promiscuous ways, arguing with authority figures, not attending school regularly and/or absconding from home on a regular or growing basis.
The project this group will complete at the Farm School is building herb gardens, complete with brick edging, design elements, plant selection and so on. A strong emphasis will be placed on literacy, numeracy and working in teams.
The group will be supported by two Adolescent Health Nurses for half a day each week, covering topics including effective communication, conflict resolution, self identity, respecting self and others, creating positive relationships, reducing risks of drugs and alcohol, sexual safety and social responsibility.
A bus will pick up students at Lilydale station and return them there at the end of each day. Pickups can also be done along the Warburton Hwy, from Lilydale, up to and including Woori Yallock if required.
