The Student Development Centre Primary provides short term intervention for students with behaviour and/or social skill problems. This early intervention program is designed to assist students with the management of their behaviour both in the classroom and the playground.
There are two types of support programs available at the SDCP for schools to access.
- The first is a two day onsite program with the students spending the remaining 3 days in their own school. The curriculum covers anger management, work organisation, social skills, self awareness, self esteem and assertive behaviour. Literacy, numeracy, art and science are incorporated into this curriculum. Two programs are offered. Monday, Tuesday for younger students and Thursday, Friday for an older group.
- Schools are also able to access an outreach program which provides weekly classroom support for teachers and schools. SDCP teachers are available to work with a nominated group student on a 1:1 basis, in small groups or the whole class. They also can work in the classroom supporting the teacher.
